Joan, whose story is told in her own words, was a pre-war baby with a name. On 3rd September 1939 she became a war-time child with a different name and unpleasant adoptive parents, and then an unhappy teenager. She rarely saw her sister, even though they had the same parents. Despite the privations, drudgery and cruelty of her war-time existence, memorable events shone through the gloom. Life as a South Wilts Grammar School girl went on probably much as it did for other girls at that time, although in Joans case it was cut short for financial reasons. Salisbury, Gosport and Blandford all played a large part in Joans life and they are the backdrop to this poignant but enriching story.
